Teenage pregnancy

At the present time there are living worldwide the greatest number of adolescents (between 10 and 19 years old) [1] in mankind’s history; accounting for half of the world´s population younger than 25 years of age. [2]

In Mexico, in year 2000 more than 500 thousand pregnancies occurred in population younger than 19 years of age, and 360,000 were full term pregnancies, representing 17% of the total of births for the country.[3]

Babies born froom teen moms have 60% more probabilities of dying , than those of older mothers. At the same time are at greater risk of low birth weight and childhood related accidents. [4]
